Italian Ice Tomato — Rare, Heirloom Cherry

About the Variety
The Italian Ice Tomato is a unique pale yellow to ivory cherry tomato known for its sweet, refreshing taste. The fruits grow in clusters of small, round cherries with a delicate translucent skin that resembles frozen lemonade. Their flavor is mild and sugary with very little acidity, making them excellent for fresh snacking straight off the vine. Because of their light color, they stand out beautifully when mixed with darker or red cherry varieties in salads or garden harvest baskets.

Growth Habit

Type: Indeterminate — will continue producing fruit all season.

Maturity: Approximately 65–70 days from transplant, making it an early producer.

Fruit Size: Small cherry-sized, borne in clusters.

Appearance: Pale yellow to creamy white fruits with a slightly frosted look, like their namesake “Italian Ice.”

Yield: Very prolific, with heavy clusters ripening steadily through the summer.

Care & Cultivation

Starting Seeds: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before your last frost date. Transplant outdoors once soil has warmed and seedlings are well established.

Spacing: Allow 18–24 inches between plants for airflow.

Light: Requires full sun (6–8+ hours daily). Good light helps sweetness and vigor.

Soil: Prefers nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Amending with compost boosts performance.

Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Deep watering encourages strong roots.

Support: Provide stakes, cages, or trellises early, as vines are vigorous and fruit clusters can weigh them down.

Fertilization: Balanced fertilizer in early growth, followed by potassium- and phosphorus-rich feeding once flowers form.

Our Growing Practices
