Phalaenopsis schilleriana
One of the most celebrated orchids from the Philippines, Phalaenopsis schilleriana is treasured not only for its gracefully arching sprays of soft, pink, sweetly scented flowers, but also for its stunning foliage. The broad olive-green leaves can reach nearly a foot in length, beautifully marbled with silver-gray markings that shimmer in the light.
What sets this cultivar apart is a unique trait: the undersides of its leaves can develop a deep plum-purple flush. This dramatic coloration is not typical of all schilleriana but is a distinctive feature of this strain, creating a striking contrast to the silver marbling above.
Closely related to the sought-after silver leaf strain, this cultivar combines fragrant blooms with showpiece foliage, making it a remarkable specimen whether in flower or not. A true collector’s orchid that delights in both bloom and leaf.
